Third week with two little ones

This has been my second week on my own with both little ones and third week with a one year old and a newborn. Some days are easier than others and some times are more challenging than others but all in all I'm really loving this new life with two kids.

I think the lack of sleep caught up with me a bit this week so I've been trying to rest during Nolan's nap. With the first baby, I think you're able to recover more but with a toddler and a newborn, I find it isn't as easy to find the time to take care of yourself too. Sometimes I forget that I just had a baby three weeks ago and that our bodies take time to heal. I have to continually remind myself that while I put most of my energy into these sweet babies, I also have to give myself some breaks when possible in order to be the best Mom I can be to them.

We've been doing a good mix of staying home and getting out for a brief outings. Here are some pictures from this week.
On Monday, I took both of them to the park for the first time! It went well. Eliza slept, and I was able to play with Nolan and chat with the other Moms. I'm really enjoying this play group we've been doing with three other Moms and their little ones. Two of them have two kids and one has one a similar age to Nolan. We all have a lot in common too.
Tuesday was a quiet day at home. I asked Nolan to hold Eliza's hands and sure enough he did. So sweet. They finished our deck stairs so that was exciting! Nolan enjoyed watching through the windows as the guys built them. I love getting projects off my to do list. It makes life with the dog much easier now that I can let her out from the kitchen while Nolan is eating breakfast.
I feel like we will use the yard a lot more now too. It's exciting to have a fenced in yard and a deck with stairs.
We went on some walks in the double stroller. Nolan was waving off pictures.
There have been lots of snuggles with Eliza.
And with Nolan too.
On Wednesday, we ventured back to the park and we met Ashley and Jackson there. They had fun together, and Nolan learned to go down the slide all by himself with me waiting at the bottom. He's learned how to put his feet first. Such a big boy!
Eliza is definitely starting to feel heavier and look longer. I'm excited to see her new stats next week. I can't believe she is going to be one month old already! Time is really flying.
On Thursday, my friend Hillary and her daughter Joelle came over. She's on maternity leave, and I'm loving having them around during the weekdays! Joelle is 6 days older than Eliza. They are pretty cute together! Her big sister Eva and Nolan are friends too!
Nolan wanted to sit in the chair with his sister too. Gosh I can't believe how big he looks next to her!
Thursday afternoon my friend Ashley and her daughter Anslie came over to meet Eliza. Nolan and Anslie are four month apart and are super cute together!
So glad Ashley got to meet her.

We are all looking forward to the weekend and the cooler fall temperatures that seem to be starting.

Weekend updates

I love the weekends and having Jeremy around to help with our little ones. On Saturday morning, we went to the park. I've been getting out of the house occasionally with both but right now while she's so tiny and I'm nursing frequently, I'm preferring to stay close to home when I'm on my own. When Jeremy's around, it's much easier to get out and about.
It doesn't feel like fall yet but hopefully soon.

On Saturday night, we went to a wedding. Thanks Mom and Anne for taking such good care of Nolan and Eliza. It was hard to leave her so young but good friends only get married once. I knew I wanted to be there for Kara's special day. Here's a few pictures. It felt great to get dressed up and have some one on one time with my husband. I've noticed with two kids now our time just the two of us feels more limited since we are typically each taking care of one of them.
With the bride and groom
Kara and I taught in classrooms next to each other four years ago and have been friends ever since.
First night out as parents of two! I also had my first post baby drink. Just one glass of wine since I'm nursing but felt nice to enjoy a drink at the wedding.
Always enjoy seeing my former coworkers.
Our wedding DJ Joel, 3.5 years later
What a beautiful wedding it was. We left early so we would be home to help with bedtime. I also didn't want to pump in the car a second time. That 5 hour outing flew by.
On Sunday, Jeremy's Dad and brother stopped by and the Sullivan's came to visit. All in all a nice weekend that went way too fast.

Here's a few other pictures.
Sweet sleepy baby
Bath time still isn't her favorite thing but she was a little happier this time.
Nolan loves snuggles with his sister
I love when he wakes up from naps this happy. It's amazing the difference a nice long nap makes. It makes sense. We are all happier and feel our best when we are well rested. I hope he continues to be such a good sleeper! More soon!

Eliza's newborn photos

As you probably know, I love pictures. For me, pictures and videos are the best way to hold on to special memories. We did a professional newborn shoot with Nolan so I wanted to do the same for her.  She was a bit fussy during the shoot but finally fell asleep, and we got some great pictures. Jennie Helmuth is a wonderful family photographer thus why I keep driving 45 minutes to her. I love her props, the backgrounds, and she always gives me many photos. The sessions don't feel rushed either. Thank you Jennie for capturing such great moments. The family and sibling ones came out well too. I keep looking at the pictures, and they make me very happy. I love our growing family and seeing our two little ones together.

17 months!

Today Nolan is 17 months. Next month he will be one and a half. Time is going quickly, and he is growing and changing everyday it feels like. During the past month he became a big brother, and he's started saying many more words. He's very curious and eager to learn.

I notice that he's attempting to repeat words when we say something. He's understanding more directions and tasks. He also has learned to go backwards down stairs. He's been going up for a few month and now can do both. That's been helpful for me since I am often needing to carry Eliza up and down the stairs.

He's typically still a good eater but some days he won't eat something and the next day he will love it. Some of his favorites are oranges, blueberries, strawberries, applesauce, cheese, and yogurt. Goldfish are his favorite snack. He usually will try what we are eating for dinner and some nights he loves it and asks for more and other times he motions no that he doesn't want it. He will toss it over his high chair test or try to give it back to me if he doesn't want it.

This month he was weaned from breastfeeding and has handled it very well. I was nervous he might wake up hungry at night but he hasn't. He's slept through the night every night since his sister arrived two weeks ago, and generally does unless he is sick. He usually sleeps 8:30pm-8am and naps around 1-3pm. He still will snuggle and fall asleep in my arms before nap and bedtime.
He loves to go on walks, play outside, play with bubbles, balls, balloons, and magnets. He enjoys organizing things and building. Nolan likes dogs, his little mower, riding toy, wagon and stroller rides, and playing with blocks. He enjoys being read to and looking at books independently too. Generally he likes bath time but he doesn't like getting dressed, diaper changes, or getting his teeth brushed.

Recently he's been having a harder time sharing with other kids. He sometimes will squeal if another child takes a toy he was playing with. I try to distract him and give him something else but it doesn't always work. Sharing seems to be a hard concept for one and two year olds. He does have some meltdowns when he doesn't get his way but generally he's a calm, happy boy.

Trying out the new double stroller.
He enjoys playing in boxes.
He smiles and laughs often.
He loves giving Eliza kisses. I can't wait to see their relationship develop. Happy 17 months Nolan! Can't wait to see what this month brings.
