Activities lately

I'm pretty behind on what we have been up to lately so here are the past two weeks. Last weekend we went to Jackson's 2nd birthday party at Little Gym. Nolan had a great time.
Checking things out
Trying out the rings
On the blow up bouncy thing.
Cute decorations and favors
The birthday boy and his parents.
We've been going to the library lately to read different books and play with their puzzles.
Such a big boy sitting in the chair. We also had a play date with my friend Kerri and her daughter Avery. I forgot to get any pictures.
He's generally napping well.
He got a Smryna fireman's hat at Smyrna food truck Tuesday. We met a few friends there. We had a play date with my friend Callie and her two little ones on Thursday. Friday morning we had a play date with my friend Liz and my new neighbor Heidi.
And there have been more naps and snuggle time with me.
And reading big brother books with Dad.

We also got a fence last weekend which was exciting!
Our yard is actually looking pretty green too!
We are looking forward to having stairs added to our deck so that we can get to the yard without going through the unfinished basement. We should have done that initially but didn't realize how much easier it would be to have deck stairs especially with the dog.

We had a pretty quiet weekend this weekend since we are waiting on the baby. Nolan got a fever Friday night so we took him to the doctor. He had a viral infection and some spots on his tongue. He seems to be recovering well and just extra sleepy and fussier than usual.

On Sunday, I went to my friend Erica's baby shower. She's due in late October.

39 weeks

How far along: 39 weeks
Total weight gain: 32lbs
Maternity clothes: definitely
Baby is the size of a: watermelon (20in/7lbs)
Stretch marks: no
Sleep: definitely struggling to sleep this week. It's hard to get comfortable and I'm thinking too much! Nerves/excitement are getting me!
Missing anything: feeling comfortable
Movement: yes lots of movement. You can basically see her feet and elbows poke out as she moves.
Best moment this week: feeling those baby kicks and having some signs of labor.
Food cravings: I don't have much of an appetite lately.
Anything making you queasy or sick: felt a little nauseous one day
Gender: GIRL!!
Labor signs: I've had a lot of tightening/Braxton hicks contractions. I occasionally feel a pain when her head presses down low. The contractions go away once I lay down or change positions.
Symptoms: tired, heartburn, belly feels heavy, pressure down low when walking longer distances, difficulty sleeping. Typical late third trimester symptoms.
Belly button in or out? Out
Wedding rings on or off? On but a little tight
Mood: excited to hold her and anxious for the labor and delivery
Looking forward to: my 39 week appointment this week. I was 2-3 cm dilated last week and think I've made more progress since.
This was all we could get tonight. This is the reality of these pictures sometimes. I think he's upset his sister still isn't here yet!

The bittersweet end of pregnancy

It's hard to believe my second pregnancy is almost over. Gosh where have the past 39 weeks gone? I have been very fortunate to have had smooth pregnancies. I have loved growing both these babies, and I can't wait to meet our newest addition. I know I will miss feeling her kicks, and it just being the two of us. I'll miss Nolan resting his arm on my belly and him pointing to my belly when I ask him where the baby is.

I am amazed by what my body has been able to do over the past two years. I have been pregnant, nursing, or pregnant and nursing for 25 months now since July 2014. My body is so much stronger and capable than I ever realized.

I've been having a lot of false labor the past few days. I didn't have any signs with Nolan before I was induced so this is all new to me. It seems like my body is preparing for the real thing. I keep getting my hopes up that maybe today is a day. Every night I put Nolan to bed, I feel like I hold him a little longer. I'm not sure which night will be the last one where he is an only child. It still feels a little surreal that I'm having a baby this week or next week. When people ask when I'm due and I say Sunday, they give me this look like whoa you're having a baby that soon!? I can't really believe it either! It's so exciting and nerve racking all at the same time. I'm ready to have the labor and delivery behind me and to be holding her in my arms! I know how special that moment is, and I can't wait to experience it again.

10 days to go!

It's hard to believe I am 38.5 weeks pregnant today and that we could be meeting our little girl any day now. I'm filled with so many emotions right now. Mainly excitement but definitely some nervousness too. Each night I put Nolan in his crib for the night wondering if it will be his last night as an only child. I'm definitely getting in every snuggle I can with him before my attention is shared between two little ones.

For the past 16 months, he's gotten all the attention and focus on him and that is about to change. The night we are in the hospital will be the first night I've left Nolan overnight. I just haven't wanted to leave him yet but I know he will be just fine. When we come home, we will have a new normal, and he probably won't remember life before his little sister. He's going to be such a great older brother!

I've been reading many articles lately about life with two children. I have also been talking to the Moms I know with two kids and observing Moms at the park who have multiple children. While some things seem a bit overwhelming, I am super excited for the challenge. Just simple things like bringing both kids downstairs and tending to both their needs when it's just me will be interesting but I know I can do it. We will have a new normal and just like with the first you figure it out.

I was 2-3cm dilated at my appointment today and made a lot of progress since last week. I have been having contractions lately but nothing consistent yet. I definitely feel like labor is getting closer which I never felt with Nolan. I think things are moving in the right direction. I'll keep you posted!

16 months!

Today Nolan is 16 months old! He's been so much fun lately and learning many new things. He also had his first haircut not done by me. I think we will stick with doing it ourselves until he gets more hair though.
Waiting for his haircut with Dad!
Not a huge fan.
He did pretty well in the beginning but got squirmy towards the end.
He loves being silly and smiles and laughs a lot! He has 12 teeth and is getting his 13th. He is 26lbs and 32.5in. I feel like he looks taller every morning when I go get him from his crib.
He's been a great sleeper lately. He typically sleeps 12 hour nights and usually takes a 2 hour nap. Occasionally he will give us a 3 hour one and sometimes less than two. I hope he can keep up good sleeping once baby sister arrives. He usually naps around 1-3pm and is awake 8-1 and 3-8:30ish. It's been nice that he will sleep later if you put him to bed later.
He plays very nicely independently. These Mega Bloks are a favorite lately. He also likes his stacking rings, stacking blocks, and reading books. Balls of any shape or size are still a favorite. He has these animal magnets too that he likes to take on and off the fridge. Nolan loves putting objects in and out of various containers.

He has some new words lately too, and I notice he is really trying to repeat what we ask him to say. Some of his new words are bubble, balloon, thank you, uh oh, tree, knee, and poo. Just with in the past few days he has been telling us before he goes in his diaper. He will say "poo" right before or right after it happened. At first I was skeptical if he really had but it does seem like he's becoming more aware which I think is a good sign. Definitely not about to begin potty training anytime soon especially with a newborn but it's a start!
He still will fall asleep in my arms for naps and bedtime. I love how snuggly he still is even as a toddler. I keep wondering when will be the last day I put him to bed as an only child! As excited as I am to see him with his baby sister, I am enjoying each last day just the two of us. I hope that he will love his sister, and I'm guessing he won't even remember life without her since they close in age. I really think he will be a wonderful big brother!

Baby is the size of a: spagetti squash (20in/6-7lbs)
Stretch marks: no
Sleep: waking up frequently but getting some good stretches of sleep.
Missing anything: being able to move around easily. Simple tasks are more challenging with a big bump.
Movement: yes lots of movement and sometimes when she moves it will hurt down low. Her feet and elbows are pretty visible when she kicks and squirms around. I think she wants to come out!
Best moment this week: talking to people about when I'm due and what I'm having.
Food cravings: anything cold! It's still been so hot here lately.
Anything making you queasy or sick: nope

Weekly update

This week has gone by pretty quickly. Nolan's been back to his happy self which has been refreshing after last weeks ear infection and fussiness. I probably made more plans than I should have for 37 weeks pregnant but I like to stay busy and keep my mind off of the labor and delivery. I'm definitely starting to get nervous about it and wonder when it will happen.

On Monday morning, I went to visit my old neighbor and got to meet her new baby boy. You forget how tiny newborns are once you get used to a toddler. I loved holding him and got me excited about holding our little girl. My other neighbor Liz was sweet and watched Nolan so I could hold the baby and not have to worry about him.

After that, I met a group of moms at the park. We are planning to do a weekly play group on Monday mornings. I loved getting to know the Moms and little ones I hadn't met before. I had a lot in common with them and it was great to meet Moms with multiple children. They are such a great resource for me as I have a lot to learn. I unfortunately didn't get any pictures. Next time!

It was my mother in laws birthday so Jeremy's family came here. We ordered pizza and kept the clean up simple. Here's a group picture.
Riley and Nolan played together.
On Tuesday, we went to a block party at the library. Nolan had a blast. This is the perfect activity for him!
So fun!
Covered in blocks! They have this once a month with different block styles. Definitely want to go again! Perfect, free, indoor social activity. We both loved it.

On Tuesday night, Jeremy watched Nolan and I had a girls night with Liz, Hillary, and Emily. They are all pregnant with girls too! So nice getting together with other Moms.

On Wednesday I had my weekly OB appointment. It was pretty uneventful. Just have to keep waiting. Then we met a friend and her daughter for lunch. At night we had another couple over to see the house. Again no pictures. I was busy enjoying the company!

On Thursday morning, we met some other moms and little ones at the park. I love observing moms will multiple kids and picture how I would manage both kids. It's going to be me so soon!
Serious business
Cooling off in the shade with a snack.
Such a big boy!

Happy Friday everyone! Could this be our last weekend as a family of three?

Fun weekend

This weekend was really refreshing. I feel like the past two months since we moved the weekends have been full of projects and trying to get things organized before the baby arrives. This was the first weekend in a while where most of our activities were fun and social. I loved that!

Friday nights are usually low key. On Saturday morning, we checked out a farmers market in our town and then signed up for a library card. Since Nolan and I usually go to the library during the week, it was nice having Jeremy there with us. Nolan really enjoys going to the children's library, looking at new books, playing with their puzzles, and just watching other families. It was a nice little outing just the three of us. We also checked out the recreation center in our town and the facilities it has.

On Saturday afternoon, my friend Ashley came over to visit. Nolan woke up from his nap early so he hung out with us too.
Nolan and Ashley being silly together.
Trying on her sunglasses
Love his eyes in this picture!

On Saturday night, my Mom babysat and we had a date night which was wonderful! I really appreciate her watching him and us getting to have a meal just the two of us. That doesn't happen very often anymore, and it's great to still spend time together.
At dinner
We went to this chocolate and fudge shop for dessert. They had snow cones too and decided to get one since it's been really hot. Very refreshing and delicious!
On Sunday, I had my friend Kara's bridal shower. I'm so excited for her and Brian! Kara and I taught in classrooms next to each other back in 2012 when she started dating Brian. It's been awesome to see their relationship develop, and I can't wait for their wedding in September!
Showering the bride to be! Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures with Kara or my old co workers.
On Sunday night, we went and got a second convertible car seat. It will eventually be for our little girl but we plan on using it with Nolan in the time. After that we had dinner at Jason's deli. Such a fun weekend that went too fast as always!

Weekly update

This week didn't really go as planned but that happens when your little one isn't feeling well. Flexibility really is key to parenting.

Last Saturday we went to our town's birthday festival for a little while. It was super hot so we didn't last long. We are really enjoying living in Smyrna. There are many new young families like us which is great. I love meeting new people in the same stage of life as us and that live locally.
Giant Smryna birthday cake!

We met my old neighbors Liz, Craig, and her son Micah there. It's always great to see them. She's pregnant with a little girl too so it will be fun to both be moms of two soon!
It was packed. Smyrna is definitely growing.

I've been trying to cook more new, easy meals lately that have fast cleaner up. I loved this recipe because it really only made a cutting board and baking sheet dirty. I'm finding with small children quick clean up is key. This was an apple and Gouda stuff chicken breast with diced sweet potatoes.
Turned out really well and pretty healthy too.
We've also been doing a bunch of foil packets on the grill lately. I do the prep during nap time and then just throw it on the grill later on.
This was a broccoli, potato, parmasean and garlic side dish.
Nolan just started to use these stacking rings a lot. It's neat to see him understand that he needs to put them on in a specific order.
Nolan had a great time at Grammy's house recently. I was able to get a pedicure and go to a doctor's appointment myself. It felt great to have a little time to sit down. I'm trying to rest up these last few weeks of pregnancy. Jeremy watched Nolan on Tuesday night and I had a girl's dinner which was great as well. I'm realizing that to be the best Mom you can be its important to take some breaks and ask for help sometimes. With staying at home, I often put pressure on myself to get everything done and be there for every moment with Nolan but it's important to take care of yourself too.
This week we put the infant car seat back in the car. It's feeling very real that we will have two little ones soon. That back seat is definitely crowded!
Nolan and I have had lots of snuggles this week while he's been sick. I'm enjoying these last weeks of it being just the two of us during the day. I love how he sleeps on my belly. :) I am hoping he starts to feel more himself soon. He's definitely improved since Monday but he's still not eating much and his sleep schedule is off. More soon!
