30 week check up

At my 28 week appointment, the doctor suggested we do a growth ultrasound to check the baby's measurements. I wasn't expecting to see her again so this came as a surprise. I was really excited to see the changes from 20-30 weeks.

Jeremy came with me, and my Mom watched Nolan. The tech brought us back and explained it was a brand new ultrasound machine. They got to test it out on us and even did a quick 3D one just for fun! This was my first ever 3D one, and it was pretty neat.
I know these look pretty creepy when it's not your baby but I still think it's amazing how clearly you can see the facial features compared to a 2D.
This is the 2D picture we got of her profile. She's getting big in there so not quite as easy to get the pictures. Everything was measuring well right on track with 30-31 weeks. It was reassuring to hear that. It always feels great to get a good report. It's starting to feel very real that she will be here in about 2 months!

Summer meals

Now that we have our grill back and our own kitchen again, we've gotten back into the routine of cooking most nights. I'm loving meals that I can prep during nap time and stick on the grill at dinner time.

Recently we made shrimp foil packets.
It was delicious.
We also did salmon and asparagus packets.

I forgot to take an after picture but both turned out well.

Some other go to meals have been grilled chicken pesto paninis, turkey burgers, kabobs, and veggie pasta dishes. Salads are always nice but don't make the best meal to share with Nolan.

We typically go food shopping on the weekend and plan out our meals for the week. I find it works best for us and saves making multiple trips to the grocery store. I'm loving our new kitchen and the big island!
It has gray cabinets and white subway tile. The kitchen is probably my favorite room in the house which is good since we spend a lot of time in there!

14 months!

Happy 14 months to this sweet boy!
He had so much fun at the park with his friend Micah. I enjoy my time with his Mom too. So excited she's having a girl around the holidays!
Enjoying the swings
And following him around.
Taking a snack break. It's been hot even early in the morning. Poor guy gets so hot and sweaty. He's really looking like such a boy to me now and less like a baby. He still gets called a baby often though but I'm feeling more like he's a toddler.
He's walking everywhere!
Those molars are still hurting too. He's generally happy but definitely having more meltdowns than usual.

His eating has been hit or miss lately. Generally he eats well and most things but he does seem to be getting a little pickier. Not sure whether it might be related to the teething or just that he's more aware of what he likes and doesn't like.

He's able to climb up stairs now too. He's showing more interest in our dog and is also starting to understand more directions. For example, if you ask him to get the ball, he will go get a ball. If you ask where his milk is, he will go find his cup. It's amazing to watch babies learn.

His favorite word seems to be yeah. Lately, whenever you ask a question, he says yeah. He even says yeah when you tell him no. It can be hard not to laugh. His other words are ma ma (which he says more when he's upset), da da, wow, bye, and what.

He's still super snuggly at times too.
I love watching his eyes get heavy as he falls asleep. It's also super sweet when he rests his arm or hand on my belly. He's too young to understand his little sister is in there but she does kick him every once in a while. Hard to believe in about ten weeks she will be in my arms too. More soon!

Molars and injuries

This walking thing is a whole new ball game. In just over two weeks, Nolan has really improved and is much more confident. He's becoming more independent and prefers walking on pavement over grass. The concrete makes me nervous since he still wipes out a lot. On the carpet and hardwoods or grass it's fine, and he usually catches himself without an issue but concrete is another story. It's definitely taking some getting used to. You want to protect them from getting hurt but you also need to let them explore and figure everything out.

He's been a bit fussier since his molars started breaking through. I can't blame him, they look painful and sore. I finally caught a picture of those two new teeth coming in. Poor guy!
He also fell and hurt his lip. He likes to carry around his water or milk cup and fell on it. This was the first time he bled a decent amount.
Ouch! He was a trooper and bounced back well. It was almost nap time so I snuggled him and made sure the bleeding stopped.
And then he was out. I've always held him a lot but with baby #2s arrival coming up quickly, I'm trying to get all the one on one time I can with him while he's still an only child.
Nolan had a play date with his buddy Nolan. They are the sweetest together.
Just watching the construction.

He's had some more meltdowns than usual but typically recovers pretty quickly.
After nap time, he was much happier. Amazing what some good sleep can do.
There's that sweet happy guy again!
Love that smile! Can't believe he is 14 months tomorrow!

Father's Day weekend

The weekends always go by too quickly. We love having Jeremy around and between the house stuff and having some social plans, it feels like the days fly by. I rarely feel like I get everything I would like to done, but I'm learning to accept that with little ones around, things just take longer and to prioritize which things are most important to accomplish.

On Saturday, we went food shopping because we were hosting Father's Day brunch. We also baked some cookies to share with our new neighbors. A few of them have been sweet and brought us treats so we want to do something nice as well. We spend nap time baking the cookies and Jeremy made a breakfast casserole for brunch. I really enjoy cooking in our new kitchen together.
Nolan took a great nap! Love how stretched out he is!

On Saturday night, my Mom graciously babysat, and we went out to celebrate my friend Tiffany's 30th birthday. We went to Bistro Niko in Buckhead. I don't remember the last time, we went out in Buckhead on a Saturday night, and it felt great to have some time as a couple with other couples.
Group shot at dinner
Happy Birthday Tiffany!
On Sunday morning, we had Jeremy's dad, brother, and his wife over to celebrate Father's Day.
Enjoying our new dining room table again!
Nolan, Jeremy, and his Dad. Three generations!
Nolan had fun building towers with his Uncle Jonathan.

In the afternoon, all three of us too a much needed nap. Once Nolan woke up, we went in search of more household items. We were in search of some accent chairs for our great room, bar stools for the kitchen, decor and art in general, as well as decor for baby girl's room. Decorating still just isn't my thing. I find many ideas that I love online but then struggle to piece my vision together. I wish I had a friend that was a decorator! I know things will come together, just need to be patient and find the right things.

29 weeks

How far along: 29 weeks
Total weight gain: 23 pounds
Maternity clothes: yup! Maternity clothes for sure.
Baby is the size of a: cabbage (16 inches/3 pounds )
Stretch marks: No
Sleep: Sleeping pretty well lately. I do wake up often but seem to be falling back to sleep easier. Nolan has been sleeping well too which is helpful.
Missing anything: sleeping on my stomach and my regular clothes
Movement: yes! She definitely moves around in there but I feel like I have pretty sleepy babies. Compared to some people, I think she moves a little less but I still make sure she does often enough.
Best moment this week: passing my one hour glucose test
Food cravings: no particular cravings but hungry in general
Anything making you queasy or sick: nope
Gender: GIRL!!
Labor signs: not really. Definitely want her staying in there longer.
Symptoms: I've gotten a few leg cramps recently and feeling tired.
Belly button in or out? In but getting shallow
Wedding rings on or off? On but slightly tight
Mood: happy
Looking forward to: my doctors appointment on the 28th. I'm getting a growth ultrasound next appointment and am excited to see her again!
My 28 week doctors appointment went well. It was a busy one. It started off drinking the orange sugary drink at 9:45. Next, they did my blood pressure, weight, and pee check. I saw the doctor that delivered Nolan this appointment. I had a few papers to sign, and I got the whooping cough vaccine. She measured my belly which was 27cm. I believe I had heard 1cm a week so that's pretty close to being on track.

I still often am told I look small or that people didn't even realize I was pregnant. This was the case with Nolan as well. I know I'm gaining and growing so I've learned to brush off the comments. Sometimes I think people think it's a compliment but sometimes it makes me worry a little when people say that.

Speaking of size, I'm having a growth ultrasound at my 30 week appointment. Last pregnancy I was induced because the ultrasound said Nolan was measuring small, specifically his stomach. They had said his head was measuring 39 weeks but his belly was measuring 37 weeks which indicated IUGR (inter uterine growth restriction) this why I was induced. When he was born, everything measured fine and his weight was completely normal at 7lbs 8oz. I still don't really think he had any growth restriction and that the ultrasound measurements were off, however, I'm glad to have the extra ultrasound and to make sure she is on track. I can't wait to see her again! This was a great unexpected surprise.

This week one of Nolan's molars broke through and a second one is very close. Both are on the bottom. He had gotten his first eight teeth pretty early from 5-8 months. We have had a nice break from teething until recently. It certainly looks like those teeth breaking through hurt, and he has been a bit more fussy and cranky than usual.

One night he woke up crying and couldn't fall back to sleep. I went in and held him, and he was much happier. His snuggles are very sweet and he loves using baby sister's bump as an arm rest. I love this feeling of my two babies together.
Teething stinks so we've cuddled a lot.
Poor guy. I hope he gets some relief soon.
He's still pretty happy most of the time. I can't get enough of those blue eyes and that smile. Sometimes it still feels a little surreal that he's our baby. I feel so lucky to be his Mom. There's been a lot of tragic events in the world this week, and it really makes me want to hold him a little tighter and try to protect him from this often scary world we live in. In these days of sad times for many families, it reminds me to live in the moment and enjoy everyday with my family.
I got a hair cut today. It felt great to get some length off. It feels much lighter.
The color turned out pretty well too!
I had shown her this picture. I'd say it's pretty close! At first it felt too blonde still but once I got home it really grew on me. Mally at the Verge Salon does a great job!, and her company is good too! And the head massage when getting your hair washed is the best! I really enjoy these moments when I get to get my hair done. It feels refreshing and great to sit down for a few.

Also this week, we had our friends Brittnry and Bo over to see the house and for dinner. She's due ten days after me with a little girl as well. So excited for them!
Nolan loves visitors and had an awesome time with them. Love her baby bump, and I can't wait to meet our girls in September!
This week we've been back to cooking a lot. I'm loving having our own kitchen again as well as having our grill back. I prepped everything for the kabobs during nap time, and Jeremy grilled them. Love team work and meals I can prep during nap time. It was delicious, healthy, and Nolan loved it too. Definitely will be making these again soon! Perfect summer meal. More soon!

28 weeks! 3rd trimester

How far along: 28 weeks (3rd trimester)
Total weight gain: 22 pounds
Maternity clothes: yup! Maternity clothes for sure
Baby is the size of a: coconut (15 inches/2.75 pounds )
Stretch marks: No
Sleep: This week was pretty good! I think I'm just exhausted from all the unpacking and organizing at the house plus chasing after a newly walking one year old.
Missing anything: a frozen margarita or pina colada
Movement: yes! Her most active time is usually around 9-11pm. During the day she sleeps a lot. I love those sweet kicks, and they are definitely getting stronger.
Best moment this week: reaching the third trimester!
Food cravings: grilled foods, frozen fruit bars
Anything making you queasy or sick: nope
Gender: GIRL!!
Labor signs: no but there have been a few times I feel some tightening every once in a while. It's nice this pregnancy knowing what to expect when it comes to real contractions versus Braxton Hicks contractions.
Symptoms: Sore lower belly and being very tired in the evenings. I usually feel pretty good in the morning.
Belly button in or out? In but getting shallow
Wedding rings on or off? On but getting a little tight with the heat we have been having
Mood: excited and a little nervous about having two babies close in age.
Looking forward to: my doctors appointment this week minus the glucose test.

Nolan and I are both growing!
This was my 28 week picture with Nolan.

With only 12 weeks left, it's starting to feel very real that we will have two children soon. I can't wait to see Nolan hold his little sister for the first time. I think he will be a great big brother although he is too young to really understand that he is going to have a sibling. I'm also really excited to see the similarities and differences in raising a boy and a girl.

We have been busy getting settled in the new house, and I've been starting to work on her nursery. I have all of her furniture besides the crib. Now I'm looking for bedding and decor. It's been fun looking at girl nursery ideas. Pictures of her nursery are coming soon!

We have a name picked out too but we like to wait until the baby is born to officially announce it. We can't wait to meet her in about 12 weeks!

Little walker!

Nolan is walking all over the place now! In just five days since taking his first steps, he's become much more confident and can go longer distances. Today he even stood up and started walking without grabbing onto something else and pulling himself up first. It's so neat to watch him learn new skills.

He is definitely keeping me on my toes now that he's walking and his crawling has gotten super fast.
Ready to take off!
After a busy day, he is out!
Love those sweet little toes and how he crosses his feet sometimes. Wish they would stay that little!

Nolan updates

Amid all the craziness from moving, unpacking, and getting our home set up, I've really been enjoying my time with Nolan. It's hard to believe that in less than three months he won't be the only child anymore. He's been such a sweetheart and has handled the transition to the new home very well. I think he's loving the extra space and his new room too.

Even though I have a lot to do at home, I've still been planning play dates and outings for him during the day. He is a very social little guy and loves to be around other people. Everywhere I take him, he is waving and smiling at others. He's even been called a future politician a few times. I'm glad that he's happy and behaves well in public (for now at least) and I'm hoping he can keep that up!

I had a special Mom moment at the store the other day that really meant a lot. Jeremy and I were grocery shopping, and he was pushing the cart. As I was walking down the freezer aisle to pick something thing up, a woman kindly asked, "is that your son in the shopping cart back there?" I eagerly said yes but was a little nervous and wondering why she asked. Next she said, "I just wanted to tell you how sweet and friendly he was to me and that you are doing a great job with him."

I couldn't help but smile ear to ear. It was such a simple comment but it meant the world to me. There are days when being a Mom is really tough, and you often feel like you aren't doing enough, and it felt awesome to hear those nice words and positive reinforcement that I am doing the best I can and that our little guy is being kind to others. When raising children, I think one of the most important goals is to help shape loving, caring, thoughtful, friendly individuals, and I was so glad that even at one, Nolan is beginning to show positive character traits. I'm really proud of him and the little boy he is becoming all too quickly. Anyway, just wanted to share how far a few sweet words can go, especially to a newer Mom.

This week Nolan and I have had a bunch of play dates. Here are some pictures.
Nolan and his buddy Jackson at the park. It was great catching up with his sweet Mom too!
The boys got pretty dirty because it had rained the night before and was wet but they had fun!
Kristen and Coleton made the trip down to see our new place. The boys enjoyed their wagon ride to the park behind our house.
Nolan likes going on walks and watching the remaining houses being built in our neighborhood. It's been very hot lately so our time outside has been a little more limited during the day but I still try to go out in the morning and evenings.
Still loving the swing!
Trying out his new riding toy from Grammy.
Bedtime story time with Dad! They are the sweetest together.

I am very thankful that I get to be home with Nolan. I love seeing him grow and change everyday. His walking has improved a lot in a few days which is amazing to see. More soon!
