26 weeks!

How far along: 26 weeks
Total weight gain: 18-19 pounds
Maternity clothes: yup! Maternity clothes for sure or long dresses
Baby is the size of an: eggplant (12 inches/2lbs)
Stretch marks: No
Sleep: I've been waking up a lot lately.
Missing anything: a frozen margarita
Movement: yes! She sleeps a lot but I'm definitely feeling her more when she is awake. The kicks and movements are my favorite part of pregnancy. Love those reminders she is there and getting stronger.
Best moment this week: closing on our new house and putting her new furniture in her room and some of her clothes in her closet. It really made it feel real that we are having another baby!
Food cravings: smoothies
Anything making you queasy or sick: nope
Gender: GIRL!!
Labor signs: no
Symptoms: By the end of the day my lower belly is sometimes sore. I got a leg cramp the other night too which I remember happened a few times with Nolan. I'm extra tired and but that's due to moving on top of being pregnant.
Belly button in or out? In but getting shallow
Wedding rings on or off? On
Mood: excited
Looking forward to: decorating her nursery!

Moving day

Yesterday was moving day! I'm very thankful we have a three day weekend. We certainly aren't spending this holiday weekend by the beach or the pool like many others are but I wouldn't want to be doing anything else this weekend! It's great to have three days with Jeremy to start getting settled.

We had the movers come to our storage unit at 8:30. We wanted to get started before it got too hot. It was definitely a warm day for moving and a big change from the wind and snow we had during our first move in January. Jeremy and the movers got everything out of the storage unit in about an hour. It was much quicker this time since most stuff was wrapped already. By 10:30am they had all our furniture and the heavier items in the house.
Last time at the storage unit!

My mom had been watching Nolan so we took a break with her and the baby for lunch before getting back to work. We did a little setting up of furniture.
Nolan's room starting to come together.
Now we need to find his decorations and artwork. I need to decide if we will do the accent wall of stripes again as well.
Baby girl's room has two vintage pieces of furniture we recently purchase at an antique store. I just love them both. Her glider is coming and I just need to decide on crib. Then we will move onto decorating! I'm really enjoying looking at girl nursery ideas.
Our room has a bed. I need to find out sheets and comforter today. We opted not to sleep there last night since we didn't have things set up very well. We also don't have Internet, TV, or a refrigerator yet. Internet and tv we can obviously do without but the fridge is kind of important with a baby. I think tonight will be our first night at the house but we will see how the day goes! More soon!

Closing day!

Yesterday was the big day. Our new home was ready (minus a few items the builder will take care of over the next few days). We had had a walk through last Friday and a final walk through the morning of closing. Most items were complete but a few remain. The walk through was at 10am and then we had a little gap until the 1pm closing. Grammy was wonderful and watched Nolan most of the day so we could focus on closing and starting to move.

The money had already been wired to the  closing attorney so today was just about signing papers. (Or so I thought!) Our realtor, loan officer, the attorney, and Jeremy and I sat down in the conference room to get started.

In just a matter of minutes reviewing the final numbers, something wasn't lining up right with the money we paid. I started to get a little nervous that the closing might get delayed. A few phone calls later two errors were found, and we all agreed on the new number. I hadn't thought to bring a check so we had a fun little field trip to the bank mid closing. Friday afternoon traffic plus holiday weekend traffic set us back a bit but when we got back with the check, they gave us the keys and we were officially homeowners again!

When we got back to my Mom's house, we picked her and Nolan up and headed over to the house for some pictures! It still feels a little surreal we have a home again. Here are some pictures!
Family shot outside the house.
With the keys! Gosh Nolan is getting so big.
Our project manager on the left and realtor on the right. Thanks for making this building and buying experience a great one!
At closing with our realtor and loan officer just after we got the keys.
Getting ready to sign the documents.
I guess candy at closing is a thing? Our last closing was the same way! Someone really organized this tray haha.
I thought this coke quote was very fitting for the occasion. Definitely a special moment for our growing family! Now the moving begins! More soon!

Final days before closing

We are super excited that our home is almost ready for us! Over the past six months, we have had a wonderful building experience, and I want to take a minute to brag on our builder a bit.

Going into building our first house, I had heard a lot of horror stories. Anything from don't expect it to be ready on time, to unmet expectations, to steep driveways, and in general just not what the buyer was hoping for. I tried to go into the building process with an open mind, flexibility, and patience. I knew that the weather can be out of the builders control. Delays happen, life happens, and we can't always control everything. There was a ton of rain in January and February during the start of the building process, and I often worried our move in date would be postponed. Somehow our builder didn't get delayed and our estimated completion date of late May became a reality. I'm really impressed that happened!

Once framing hit and the roof was on, things were happening everyday. It was so fun driving over to the house to see what was newly completed. Jeremy and I would make our predictions and each time we visited, we were always excited to see what had changed. I had been a bit nervous about some design selections and seeing it all come together, I think we are both really satisfied. There are minor things like the tile in the kids bathrooms isn't as textured as I had hoped for but it's just little things. Overall, we are thrilled with how our home turned out.

I think we chose our upgrades wisely. Going in to the design process, we tried to choose things now that would be harder to do later. We still left ourselves some projects we would eventually like to do, (finishing the basement, screening in the back porch, adding a fence just to name a few) but prioritized what was most important to us and spent our money there. It definitely is easy to go over budget when building because each little thing can add up but I felt like we got most of what we were looking for! There's always going to be some cons in any home but the pros far outweigh any negatives. We feel extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to build the home we plan to raise our family in. A new chapter starts on Friday, and I can't wait to see the memories we make in our new home!

13 months!

Another month has gone by already. People weren't kidding when they said babies grow up quickly. It seems like after  Nolan turned one he went right from a baby to a little boy. When we are out and about people still call him a baby though. I guess he still has a bit of baby left in him but to me he feels much more grown up, and he sure is getting heavier and taller.

We've had a great few weeks. Since we got home from Tallahassee he's been on a great schedule. Typically waking up around 8:30-9am and going to bed around 8:30pm with a solid two-three hour nap in the afternoon around 1-4. I was hesitant to switch to one nap but it's working much better for both of us. We have more time in the morning for play dates, errands, and lunch, a nice break in the afternoon, and lots of play time in the evening plus dinner, bath, and story time. He hasn't woken up in the night lately either. I'm really treasuring this great sleep as I know we will be back in the newborn sleep phase before we know it.

He's such a happy little guy. Recently he started building towers, playing with pop up toys, and learning more each day. He still loves to wave, clap, and do "so big". He can point to someone's nose, and we are working on learning other body parts. He loves to say "wow" "da da" "ohh" "baba" and occasionally will say "mama". He babbles a lot too. Here are some  13 month photos. I will say I'm glad the 12 month photo stickers are over.
He loves blocks and taking them in and out of things.
Getting fitted for his first pair of shoes! He was a 4.5 extra wide. Chubby little feet. We ended up getting the size 5 because his one foot was slightly bigger which is apparently common. I wanted to make sure he had a little room to grow too.
Trying out his new sneakers.
Daddy and Nolan hanging out together.
Fun at the park.
Trying on a hat at target.
Really Mom? Take this off!
More play time at the park! Forgot to get a picture with his friend Coleton.
Peek a boo!
Playing on the train.
He loves tracking along things.
Driving the Ga Tech race car!

I'm really enjoying these last few months with Nolan being the only child. More soon!

One week until closing!

Today we had a meeting with our project manager. We walked the house and reviewed any touch ups that were needed and any other things that needed to be addressed. They are in really good shape and mostly cosmetic things and a few other details to finish. It's very exciting to see the final pieces come together.

It still feels a little surreal that it's going to be our house. Building our home has been a very fun experience and overall I'm really happy with how our design choices turned out. The kitchen is my favorite. I absolutely love it.
Here is a picture of the completed kitchen.

One week to go!

Happy baby

Nolan has had a wonderful week since we got home from Tallahassee last week. It's amazing how much he prefers his usual routine and the room and crib he is familiar with. As I mentioned in my post about the trip, he didn't sleep well at the hotel.

Since we've been home he's been back to sleeping through the night and taking a great afternoon nap. I'm glad we got back on track. I am hoping he does well with the transition to our new house and his new room. I'm looking forward to setting his room up again.
Sometimes getting dressed for the day happens after breakfast!
This smile makes waiting for an oil change much more fun!
He had fun playing in our house during the inspection. There isn't much he can get into while it is empty! He crawled all over and explored his new home.
He loves his wagon that my friend Jess sent him for his birthday! It's a double wagon too so room for little sister. He looks really tall in this picture. Little ones sure do grow quickly.
After a busy morning, falling asleep on the way home is the way to go. He's been doing much better transitioning to the crib for naps if he falls asleep in the car.
So proud!

He's getting good at his pop up toys! These pictures were from Granmy!

I'm enjoying this last week before things get busy moving, unpacking, and organizing. More soon!

30th birthday celebration

I had been looking forward to Saturday for a couple weeks. We had planned to have a gathering of friends at a bar/restaurant called Ormbsys. Originally I wanted to have a pool party or a house party but without a house of our own or a pool of our own, that was going to be difficult. I also worry about planning something outdoors and what we would have done if it rained. It ended up being a beautiful sunny day so it was a bit of a bummer we were inside but fun regardless.

I decided to do an afternoon thing so that friends with little ones could bring their children along. I didn't want people to feel like they had to get a babysitter. My Mom watched Nolan so I could enjoy everyone's company and not be distracted. It was great to catch up with many friends that I don't see that often.
The whole table. There were about 20 of us and four little ones that joined. Love having friends from different places together. Some old coworkers, some of Jeremy's friends, some Mom friends I've recently met, etc. We ate lunch, played some games like darts and bocce and had nothing bundt cakes for dessert that we brought with us.
Half of the table. Lake forest teacher friends, significant others, plus Fred and his girlfriend Alexis. Fred is a PSU alum as well that I met through a mutual friend when he moved here.
Other half of the table.
Some of the girls!
Tiffany and me! Both our Nolan's were at home this time.
Hillary, me, and Eva. Love having play dates with them! I didn't get many pictures but I did make lots of great memories. What a great way to start off a new decade!

24 weeks!

How far along: 24 weeks
Total weight gain: 15 pounds
Maternity clothes: yup! Mostly maternity shorts and smaller maternity tops. Long dresses work well.
Baby is the size of an: ear of corn 12 inches/1.5lbs)
Stretch marks: No
Sleep: some nights are better than others
Missing anything: some of my non maternity clothes
Movement: yes! She sleeps a lot but I'm definitely feeling her more when she is awake and when I'm sitting still.
Best moment this week: my 24 week appointment went well
Food cravings: nothing bundt cakes, pasta dishes, and fruit
Anything making you queasy or sick: nope
Gender: GIRL!!
Labor signs: no
Symptoms: Feeling a little stretching in low stomach.
Belly button in or out? In but it is starting to change.
Wedding rings on or off? On
Mood: happy
Looking forward to: moving into our new home in two weeks!

My 24 week doctors appointment was uneventful. Just the usual blood pressure and pee check, heartbeat check, and this week they started measuring my belly. Her heartbeat was 155 and nice and strong. Always love hearing that sound. She said my belly was measuring normally and everything was looking good. Yay for another successful visit. Next appointment at 28 weeks, I have my glucose screening for gestationational diabetes. After that the two week appointments start. Time is flying!

Week 24 also marks the first viability milestone which is also exciting. Obviously we hope she stays in there for a while but it always feels good once you get to the point in the pregnancy where the baby could survive if labor started early. I was fortunate and had a great full term pregnancy with Nolan so hopefully that will be the case with this baby too! 16 weeks to go! Weekly pictures coming soon!

Last day in my twenties

The day has arrived. My last day in my twenties! This decade has certainly been full of many wonderful memories. My twenties started at Penn State where many friendships were formed. They continued when I turned 21 while studying abroad in Australia. Then at 22 I graduated from college, I accepted a kindergarten teaching job in Georgia where the majority of my twenties were spent. Little did I know when I made that move, what wonderful things would be in store in this new city and state.

It first, Georgia and Atlanta didn't feel like home. Most of my family and friends were far away. 22-23 was a transition year figuring out a new job while also creating new friendships. I went through an anxiety/depression phase and really struggled with this new adult life. It definitely wasn't easy at first and there were times I second guessed my decision to move away.

My second year teaching, things started to settle in, and I started dating on and a few other sites. I was ready to meet a guy to share my life with. I went on many dates, had a few short relationships but nothing seemed to feel right. That's when I started working on my masters in reading and literacy and took a break from the dating scene and focused on myself and my career.

Six months later, just after my 24th birthday, I tried the online dating thing again. This time meeting my future husband. Also during these years, I moved apartments a lot. Every year for four years straight. One year with a roommate, one without, one with a roommate again, and then I moved in with Jeremy in an apartment for a year before we bought our townhouse.

25 and 26 were great years. I got engaged, bought a townhouse with Jeremy, and started planning our wedding. Just before my 27th birthday, we got married, had a wonderful honeymoon in St. John, and life as a married couple began. That summer we started trying to get pregnant.

27-28 was a bit of a challenging time. Teaching was busy, I was diagnosed with PCOS, and we started fertility treatments. This was also the time when I made the decision to take time off from work and focus on starting a family. Soon after that, we found out we were pregnant!

I had a wonderful pregnancy and had Nolan just three weeks before my 29th birthday. My 29th year has turned out to be way more exciting and had lots of unexpected events! We decided to sell our first home and build new home. A few weeks later, we found out we were expecting again! I was thrilled it was easier this time, and I was so happy to be expanding our family.

We moved in with my mom for four months while the house was being built. We found out we were having a little girl which was exciting as well! And here we are today two weeks from closing on our first house. I think it's safe to say my twenties were full of happiness, success, and ache inching goals. Of course there were bumps in the road along the way, but all in all its been a great ten years!

I'm actually excited about turning thirty. I think this decade will be awesome. Very different than the last but special and exciting for new and different ways. I can't wait to get settled in our new home and meet our newest addition in a few months. I feel blessed beyond measure, and I am very thankful that my family is healthy and things have been generally going according to plan. I've definitely learned life doesn't always go the way we hope and dream but right now things have been really good! Can't wait to see what the thirties have in store!

Babies and hotel rooms

Since Nolan was born, he's done a fair amount of traveling. He's been on six flights and a few driving trips. I've always told myself that I would try and keep traveling after kids. Lately, this is proving to be harder than I thought, and I'm realizing more and more how important consistency and a routine is with little ones.

When Nolan was a newborn and traveling, he woke up one way or the other so I think I didn't realize a difference. Now that he is is one and typically sleeping through the night at home, it's been a different story.

During the past four weeks, we stayed at hotels for a total of nine nights. Each day I would do the same thing like we usually do. Eat breakfast, play, go on a walk, eat lunch, take an afternoon nap, go to the pool, play some more, go to dinner, bath time, books, nursing, and bedtime. Most nights I was able to get him to sleep but staying asleep was an issue. I'm sure it's partly being in a strange crib, in a different room, and with us near by that makes it challenging for him to sleep.

I would love to hear any pointers for how other parents manage traveling with little ones and sleeping in hotel rooms. I've heard suites are helpful in having two separate room areas but that's just not always possible.

Maybe I'm silly for wanting to travel with young children but I want them to have a love for seeing new places and learning from meeting different people and being exposed to unfamiliar places. These years while we have small children and babies, I'm thinking it's probably best to stay to home unless completely necessary. My lack of sleep the past few days has been a good reminder of life with a newborn. :)

Today we are heading home from Tallahassee. The days and dinners have been fun despite the difficult nights. Here are a few pictures.

He really enjoyed the pool after the initial shock of getting in the cool water.
Waving to everyone!
We spent a lot of time walking and playing in the hotel room while Daddy worked. In the evenings, we had dinner with some of Jeremy's coworkers. Nolan did really well at all the dinners with the exception of the time he pushed a menu into a full water glass sending it spilling across the floor and onto the lady next to us. Whoops! It was bound to happen eventually and luckily was just water and a broken plastic cup. We enjoyed seeing our friends Christina and Adam that live in Tallahassee.

Now we've got two and a half weeks until closing! I'm super impressed with our builder that they stayed on track with our building timeline. We've had such a positive building experience but more on that in another post! I am beyond excited to move in and get settled in our new home. It's really starting to come together now. More soon!
