37 weeks! Full term!

How far along? 37 weeks
Total weight gain: 35 pounds
Maternity clothes? Yes!
Stretch marks? Nope
Sleep: definitely not sleeping as well as I was. I wake up frequently and have a hard time falling asleep but it's understandable!
Miss anything? just the usuals
Movement: Yes! I had thought the movement slowed down as the baby got more crowded but he is still quite active. I see his little feet poking out on my side and his butt and back will poke out on the other side. Even after months of feeling his movements, I still just love it!
Best moment this week: getting our maternity pictures back and seeing him at our ultrasound for the first time since December! I loved seeing his little profile!
Food cravings: still really liking a bowl of cereal
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope!
Gender: BOY!!
Labor signs: not really. He still seems content in there.
Symptoms: heartburn has been very frequent and just feeling like my skin is being stretched to the max! It's amazing what a woman's body can do!
Belly button in or out? It's basically out!
Wedding rings on or off? On and slightly tighter but still okay.
Mood: excited and a bit nervous
Looking forward to: meeting our little boy!
Feeling super pregnant!

Yesterday we had my 37 week appointment. Jeremy came with me since we had an ultrasound. I was very excited to see him since it had been so long. He was definitely squished in there, and it was much harder to get a good picture of him. We did get a few!
This is a profile shot of his face with his hand under his chin!
It is certainly confirmed for a third time that he is a boy! That's a between the legs shot of his boy parts.

At the ultrasound, they measured different parts of his body which then gave them an estimate of his current weight. They measured his head, leg bones, and stomach. She looked at his brain, heart, and kidneys and everything was still looking normal. She said a few of his measurements were slightly small for 37 weeks but that he was close enough.

When we met with the doctor, he reviewed the ultrasound with us. He said his estimated weight is currently 6lbs 3oz. We asked if there were any red flags, and he said everything looked great. He's still head down, and his fluid levels are good! My blood pressure, pee check, and belly measurement were fine. No signs of preclampsia, and I passed my group b strep test from last week. All good news! I haven't had any internal exams or checks for dilation. I think that starts next week.

We've been very fortunate all the prenatal testing and ultrasounds have shown a healthy, growing baby. We continue to hope for a smooth labor and delivery and a healthy little boy! I remember when April 2015 seemed so far away, and here we are on the first day of April! I'm having a baby and becoming a mom this month!

Weekend updates

On Friday nights, we typically stay in but with limited date nights left we have been taking advantage of our babysitter free nights! We just went to a place called Grub for a burger and a milkshake. I love just people watching and enjoying these nights with Jeremy.
We went to Target afterwards and picked up some things we needed. I love going there on a Friday night when it is less crowded and the lines are shorter.

On Saturday morning, we stayed in bed until close to 11. I know these lazy, quiet weekend mornings are limited too and want to enjoy them as well. We went up to the north GA outlets in the afternoon and got Jeremy some new polos and t shirts. I'm sure we won't be shopping much for ourselves in the upcoming months!

On Sunday, we ran some errands, and I had a Skype date with my brother, sister in law, and my two nephews. It's always nice to chat with them on Skype so I can see the boys! Then we went to a spring potluck at our friends. Unfortunately I forgot to take any pictures there! We played cornhole and ate yummy food. I love gatherings like that where everyone brings an app or dessert.  We really need to do things like that more often! Many of these couples we hadn't seen since holiday parties back in December so it was nice to catch up. And just like that the weekend was over!

This week is looking pretty good. I'm really looking forward to my ultrasound tomorrow and seeing our baby one more time! I haven't had one since 20 weeks which is a good thing but I'm glad we will be able to check in on him and make sure everything still looks good. It's hard to believe I'm 37 weeks this week. I remember seeing super pregnant ladies and wondering what it must be like to be that pregnant. Now I know!

Maternity pictures

Today I woke up to an email with the full gallery of our maternity pictures! I absolutely loved the previews she shared and the album she posted on her Facebook page. I just couldn't wait to see all of them! They far exceeded my expectations! Originally I was debating whether we should do these pictures but I am very glad we did. Jennie Helmuth did an amazing job, and I would definitely recommend her for maternity, newborn, and family pictures! Here is the link to her site! Helmuth Photography

This is a very special time in our lives, and these pictures document all those feelings of excitement that we are both feeling! I've always heard how pregnant women can look like they are glowing, and I really feel like these images capture that exact thing. I love that we have one more set of pictures of just us as a couple and images celebrating our soon to be family of three!

Here are some of my favorite shots! These were taken at the Goat Farm Arts Center in Atlanta.

I know that was a lot of pictures! It was really hard to choose my favorites because there were just so many that I loved! I have about 140, and I have them in color and black and white. As I've looked at these images over and over again, it makes me very thankful for my husband and for our soon to be son. It's amazing how much I already love him even though we haven't met him yet! I'm thankful everyday that I've had the opportunity to experience pregnancy and that bond that a mother has with her baby. I've experienced a lot of amazing things in my life, and I must say this is definitely one of the most special years of my life. Life is full of ups and downs, and it certainly isn't always this happy. I'm glad we have these images and that we will be able to remember this time in the years to come. I can't wait to show them to our son when he is old enough to appreciate them! They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and I couldn't agree with that statement more!

Car seat check

As I mentioned in my last post, I wanted to do a post about car seat safety. I read a lot about babies and one thing I had heard was that it was very common that car seats are not properly installed. Yes we read the manual and put it in ourselves at first and it seemed relatively straight forward but I wanted the peace of mind that we had done it correctly. That's where our adventure began.

I had looked on http://www.safercar.gov to find the nearest car seat checking station. The one wasn't open on the weekend so we decided to try one of the fire stations that were listed. This was on Sunday. The first fire station we went to on the list told us he didn't have any guys working today who had been through the training, and he directed us to a different one.

At this fire station, we met with two guys who had apparently been to the training. Well they gave us conflicting information, and they worried me that our car seat wasn't safe. (We found out after the fact at our class today that they weren't giving us accurate information.) After feeling a little unsure about what they had told us, we tried another fire station. They directed us to make an appointment at Safe Kids Cobb County.
http://www.safekidscobbcounty.org/carseatcheck.html This seemed to be the official place to go for the county we live in. Even though I had hoped to get the car seat check taken car of on Sunday, I knew going to this place was best and that they would be experts and know more than the fire stations did.

We made an appointment for Thursday after Jeremy got off work. I wanted him to be there to see and hear whatever they were going to tell me. We were both expecting it to be a short 5 minute check but it turned out to be about a 45 minute free course about car seat safety. I'm so glad we went, and it was definitely informative.

The first thing they did was take out the base, and we installed it again together. We got the base nice and secure. They told us the base shouldn't be able to move more than an inch in any direction.

Next they showed us how to properly put the baby in the car seat. They even had us practice with dolls. There was a premie and a regular newborn size doll that we adjusted the straps on and buckled in securely. While I am sure all this information is owners manual, it was nice go over everything with a trained person who was there to make sure we were doing it properly. Here are a few pictures of us practicing! I know the dolls are pretty silly looking!

Getting the baby in and out!

I just loved seeing Jeremy practice and am very thankful he's willing to go along with me to do things like this! We both learned things we didn't know, and I feel much better knowing I'm educated about car seat safety.

A few tips that they did suggest that we were unaware of was that the unused seat belts should be buckled. This prevents them from potentially hitting the baby in an accident if they are loose. They also recommended not having loose items in the car that could potentially be thrown and hit the baby. They also discouraged back seat mirrors which was a bit disappointing to me but I see their point. They are there to make us  aware of any potential safety hazards and make sure that our baby is as safe as possible.

Overall, this car seat check turned out to be a much bigger production than I was expecting. Something that seemed really easy and straight forward was actually much more complicated than I had imagined. I'm very glad we went and would recommend other new parents go to something like this as well! Plus, it was pretty cute to see Jeremy practicing with those dolls! It got me even more excited for the real thing. :) Less than a month to go but who is counting!?

36 weeks!

How far along? 36 weeks
Total weight gain: 33 pounds
Maternity clothes: of course! Now that it's spring in Atlanta I have less options for maternity clothes. Mostly everything I have are winter clothes! I've been sticking with jeans and short sleeve shirts for the most part.
Stretch marks? Nope!
Sleep: waking up pretty often but that's expected this late in the third trimester.
Miss anything? Sleeping on my back and stomach.
Movement: He is definitely still moving a lot. I'm enjoying every little kick and hiccup because I know he won't be in there much longer.
Best moment this week: my 36 week appointment going well.
Food cravings: bundt cakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes! I had one the other day, and it was so delicious!
Anything making you queasy or sick? Nope!
Gender: BOY!!
Labor signs: Not really. Occasionally I'll feel my belly tighten up a bit but overall I haven't had any signs of labor.
Symptoms: heartburn and just feeling crowded! There is some pressure from the weight of the baby too but overall I'm feeling well again. I'm glad that pain a couple weeks ago went away!
Belly button in or out? Mostly out
Wedding rings on or off? Still on!
Mood: excited but anxious to find out when he will arrive!
Looking forward to: my ultrasound next week! I haven't had one since 20 weeks, and I can't wait to see him one more time.

Still growing!
Baby is the size of a...
Almost there!
Last row!

I had my weekly doctors appointment yesterday. My blood pressure was good, pee check was fine, and belly measurement was 35cm which is right about where I should be. His heartbeat was 145, and she said he sounded good. I've gained enough weight too but the doctor agreed that I look small for 36 weeks. She decided that we should do an ultrasound at my next appointment just so we can better check on his growth and get a better estimate of his weight. I was fine with that, and it will be nice to see him again and make sure he's still growing well. Jeremy is planning to join me for the ultrasound so he can see our little guy one more time too! Hopefully everything will look good, and it will just give us a better estimate of his weight.

As for other updates, we went to get the car seat checked over the weekend, and it turned out to be more complicated than I had imagined. I'll do a separate post about that soon!
