The night before the gender reveal!

Today I substitute taught for an old coworker and friend of mine. It was Book Character Day at school, and it was a fun day to be there. A sub in a costume definitely gets the kids silly in the morning! I enjoyed dressing up with my old coworkers and appreciated them including me. Here are some pictures from the day!
Two of us are pregnant so we decorated our baby bumps. Wish mine was a little bigger but it was still fun!
I loved the idea of using turkey roasting pans as ninja turtle shells! The kids loved it, and it was a pretty simple costume to put together. It was great seeing my old team today!

Despite the distractions of teaching and dressing up, one thing has been on my mind all day! Will this baby be a boy or a girl? While it is Halloween, it feels like the night before Christmas to me. Tomorrow is the big day! I am so excited and a bit nervous too. I keep wondering if the baby be in the right position so we can tell! I really hope it cooperates! Speaking of it, hopefully this is the last post calling the baby an "it". He or she sounds much better!

While some couples choose not to find out the gender, we knew all along that we wanted to find out. The way I look at is that I get two surprises. I get a surprise tomorrow and another one when I get to see my baby for the first time. It almost makes me want to tear up thinking about both experiences. I've dreamed of having a baby and finding out whether it is a boy or girl is another big milestone that I've been looking forward to the past 15 weeks.

I know that no matter which gender it is that I will be super excited. Check back to the blog tomorrow night for the announcement after we share with our families and close friends! Thanks for being part of this exciting time with us!

15 weeks!

Here we are 15 weeks in! It's starting to set in and feel very real that we are expecting a baby. In the beginning, I tried to stay cautious and not get my hopes up. At this point, I'm feeling quite attached to this tiny baby! I can't wait to be able to call it a he or she this weekend! I'm also really looking forward to Jeremy being at the ultrasound. He hasn't been to one since week 9, and so much has changed since then. I hope we are able to get some good angles/pictures and that it is obvious whether we are having a boy or a girl! I can already tell it's going to be hard to sleep on Friday night! So much excitement and anticipation. I can't wait to share the news with all of you! I'll be sure to post the reveal as soon as we share with our families!
Getting a little bigger!

Nursery progress

Starting the nursery was one of the first things on my to do list. I wanted to try and get the moving done before I got too much of a baby bump. Changing two rooms is also a big project that takes time so we got started sooner rather than later. We also need to repaint the baby room too. Lots to do!

Last night, we broke down the guest bedroom and moved the mattress and box spring into the office. Jeremy spent last week putting together his new desk. We went with an "L" shaped one so he would have more space, and it would also allow room for the bed. The desk was important to him and a guest bed was important to me so combining the two was the best way to make it work for both of us. It might not be the most beautiful room but it's practical and that's what matters to us.

Here are some pictures of the progress!
The crib and changing table has arrived! This is getting very real! The room looks ready for a boy! We plan to change the paint color either way to make it brighter. Next on the list is to find a glider, choose a paint color, and decide on a theme/how to decorate it. The other two walls of this room still have furniture too that needs to be removed but overall im happy with the progress we have made. I can tell these next few months will fly by.
Office/guest room. We still need to find a bed frame smaller than the one we had. I'm thinking just a headboard since it's already a bit tight in there. It's still a work in progress but a big improvement from last week!

San Fran/Napa wedding weekend

This weekend one of my husband's best friends got married in San Fran. After a forecast of rain all week, it turned out to be a pretty day. The wedding started at the City Hall for the ceremony. What a beautiful spot to get married!
It was a small intimate wedding with about 40-50 of their closest family an friends. We were glad to be a part of that group, and we are so happy we were there to celebrate with such a great couple.

Adam works for Google now, and they rented a double decker Google bus to take all the wedding guests around the city and then up to a winery in Napa. Such a great idea! Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the different stops around the city.
Great time with friends!
Slowly but surely the baby bump is starting!
Love this view!
And we finished off the weekend with a lobster roll! Yum!
We have one more day out west before we head back home tonight. I have a busy but fun, exciting week coming up. Baby furniture being delivered and finding out the baby's gender on Saturday! Hoping for a quick week! Can't wait!

14 weeks and the second trimester!

This morning was another milestone. We are officially in the second trimester. One third of the way through my first pregnancy and exactly six months until
Baby Ciak's due date, April 22, 2015! It's definitely starting to fly by now that those first few weeks are over.

I got a call the other day that all of the bloodwork came back normal. That was wonderful to hear. So far the risk for some different issues is low. At my next appointment I have my second trimester screening which is a continuation of the first trimester bloodwork. Of course there are many more tests to pass and each day brings some uncertainty but so far everything is going smoothly!

Since this is my first pregnancy I obviously don't have anything to compare it to but it seems I have gotten off pretty easy in the first trimester. I was one of the fortunate ones that didn't get morning sickness and had pretty minimal symptoms. I keep hoping I put my time in with stressful situations when trying to get pregnant and that the pregnancy will be drama free! Time will tell!

Birthday and wedding celebrations

Some of you might have seen these pictures on facebook already but still wanted to do a post about this weekend. We had a low key Friday night followed by baby furniture shopping on Saturday afternoon. On Saturday night, we had a dinner date night to celebrate Jeremy's 29th birthday! I'm making sure to appreciate these date nights without needing a babysitter! It's hard to believe 6 months from now we won't be having spontaneous nights out as a couple but I know it will be totally worth it!

We went to Wisteria, and it happened to be restaurant week so we got the fixed price menu for three courses. Always a nice treat. Here's a few pictures!
The food was delicious!
They even gave him a candle.
We also went to my Mom's, and she made him a delicious birthday dinner and homemade coconut cake!

On Sunday, we ran our errands in the morning and then we got ready for a wedding in North GA. It was for one of Jeremy's high school friends. They got a beautiful fall day, and the venue was very pretty!
Kelly and Mat are married!
At the ceremony, they built a lego heart together as a symbol of unity. Cute alternative to the sand ceremony or unity candle, and it definitely fit their personalities! They did a great job with the little details!
Love the background for this cake! The wedding was actually held outside in these stone ruins which was neat.
It was very pretty at sunset when the lights started coming on. It was a beautiful day for a fall wedding!
And one picture of us!

The weekends always go by too fast! This one was particularly fun though! I'm really looking forward to the next two weekends as well. We have a wedding in Napa this weekend, and the gender reveal the following weekend. So much excitement. Definitely enjoying these fun times!

We bought a crib!

For the past few weeks, I've been searching for cribs and changing tables. I'm usually pretty indecisive but I decided a few weeks ago that I wanted the furniture to be a light gray. After looking at lots of baby room ideas on Pinterest, I kept coming back to rooms with gray and then a boy or girl accent color. It just seemed different than the black, brown, and white cribs I was accustomed to seeing when I babysit. Once I had the color narrowed down, it made it a little easier since there weren't too many options in the color I was looking for. Luckily I found two that I loved at Pottery Barn Kids!

I had seen them both online but it wasn't until yesterday that my mom and I went to look at them. Surprisingly they had both in the store. I loved the one a little more than the other one but I didn't like the price difference! The one was a great deal, and if you know me, I love a great deal. Nice quality plus a good price even better!

I took Jeremy back today. Probably not what he wanted to do on his birthday but being the sweet guy he is, he agreed. After going back and forth, we decided on the more cost effective option. Both were beautiful, and I knew I couldn't really go wrong either way. I'm surprised I actually made such a big decision/purchase pretty quickly!
Now, will it have pink or blue inside!? We can't wait to find out two weeks from today! Time to start breaking down the the guest room. I will miss this room but couldn't be more excited to turn it into a nursery!
Also, sending a happy birthday to my husband today! It's his last birthday in his twenties, and I can tell already 29 is going to be a awesome year for him!

13 weeks!

This week there isn't really much new to report. Things seem pretty consistent with the past week or two. I think I'm getting a little more energy back but I'm definitely still trying to get a lot of sleep. I'm still waiting on lab results from last weeks appointment too. The countdown is on for the gender reveal as well. I can't wait to find out! Only 17 days to go!

Now that the first trimester is coming to a close, I'm actually starting to plan a little more and need to start making some decisions. It's starting to feel much more real after that 12 week ultrasound. I really want to get started on the nursery as soon as we know the gender and try to take care of that big project while I'm still a reasonable size! I've been browsing furniture ideas and color options. There are just SO many choices that it makes it hard to choose. Knowing the gender will make it a little easier I think.

I'm looking forward to the next few milestones coming up! Getting a bump, wearing maternity clothes, finding out the gender, and feeling that first kick! So many things to look forward too, and I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to be experiencing this all.

Just yesterday I went back and read my first few blog posts from back in May. What a difference a few months makes but all those memories are still so fresh in my mind. I think often about all the women out there still struggling, and I remind myself that while our journey wasn't the easiest we really got lucky that my first IUI was successful and that we achieved a pregnancy. Not a day goes by where I take that for granted. Each day it feels more and more real, and I can't wait to see how the next six months all play out. I'm sure hoping it will be as smooth as the first trimester but am also trying to prepare myself for more challenges ahead. I recognize that there really isn't anything easy about becoming a parent and that we need to be ready for whatever bumps in the road we might get to. For now, I'm going to enjoy the calmness and this special time!

I'm looking forward to this weekend. It's Jeremy's 29th birthday. Hard to believe it's his last birthday in his twenties and his last birthday as a family of 2! We have birthday plans with his family tomorrow, dinner plans just the two of on Saturday, and a wedding on Sunday. Fun stuff!

Camping with friends

This weekend we went camping with two of my old coworkers and their boyfriends. It was actually the first time Jeremy and I went camping together which was a lot of fun and something we have talked about doing for years. It's hard to believe we've been together for over four years and hadn't been camping. I guess there are firsts for everything. We had so much fun with the other two couples despite the torrential downpours and excess mud that welcomed us at night and in the morning.  We lucked out with the weather temperature wise so that was good at least.

We headed up to Doll Mountain campground on Friday night after stocking up on camping essentials. I'm a huge fan of roasting marshmallows so that was a must! After getting our tents up and getting settled, we spent Friday night grilling burgers and sitting around the fire chatting.

On Saturday morning, we made breakfast and then headed to the apple festival that was in Ellijay this weekend. I always like festivals and checking out the booths. We got an apple cider slushie that was delicious. After browsing around, we went back to the camp site and made dinner. Our friend introduced us to making pudgie pies for dinner. If you haven't heard of it, it's basically like a grilled cheese you make on the camp fire in a little sandwich type press. We made ours into pizza pockets. It's hard to explain what they are so if you're still unsure what they look like and are wondering, just google image them!

Going camping pregnant made me realize one major thing. I didn't realize how frequently I use the bathroom until you don't have one nearby! Needless to say, as much fun as I had, camping probably won't be happening again for a while for a few reasons. This was probably one of the last weekends I could actually get away with sleeping on the ground and still being somewhat comfortable. I'm so glad we squeezed this trip in before Baby Ciak arrives. I did see some people camping with little ones but definitely a different experience!

Here are some pictures from the weekend!
Carter lake
Tent set up
Lounging in the hammocks
Toasting marshmallows!
Such a fun weekend with great friends!

Great 12 week ultrasound!

I had been eagerly awaiting this day for the past three weeks. Today I went for my 12 week check up and also for the NT scan (Nuchal translucency). For those of you unfamiliar, the NT ultrasound is a screening that helps check for a baby with Down's Syndrome and other chromosome abnormalities. During this test, the ultrasound tech measures the fluid in the back of the baby's neck. They also look for the presence of a nasal bone. The test is completed during weeks 11-13 while the baby's skin is still translucent. Pretty amazing what the doctors and ultrasounds are capable of these days.

Like always, my heart beats a little faster while sitting in the waiting room. Today was the first ultrasound I had on my stomach which was exciting. Immediately after she got the baby on the screen, she said the picture was great! No need to do the internal ultrasound anymore. She got started by measuring the fluid in the neck which she said was normal. Quickly, she spotted the nasal bone. Those were the two key features we were looking for on the ultrasound today. It was great to hear that things were looking normal. Apparently babies that have abnormalities typically show problems in those two areas. I was glad to have more good news. This ultrasound is also paired with bloodwork so I have to wait 7-10 days for the full test results but the doctor did say the ultrasound was one of the most important parts of the screening and a good indicator of any problems. All in all, I felt like it went as smoothly as possible.

The ultrasound tech was super sweet and spent a bunch of time showing me different parts of the body and explaining what I was looking at. I really appreciated her attention to detail, and I was so amazed by everything she pointed out. First, she showed me to two lobes of the brain. Then she showed me the stomach and pointed out how you could see liquid in there which indicates the baby is already able to suck and swallow. Next she showed me the bladder and how it was already carrying fluids as well. So neat! And of course I saw and heard the heartbeat again which seems to be more special and beautiful everytime. What a wonderful experience! She also let me take a video for my husband since he wasn't there today.

My other favorite part of today's ultrasound was getting to see the arms and legs wiggle around. She also zoomed in on those tiny fingers and toes too. It was so great to see what looks like a healthy, normal baby growing just like it's supposed to. I know we have lots and lots of weeks to go but making it to 12 weeks was another huge milestone in my books. The risk of miscarriage drops and the chances of things being okay increases and just having those statistics on your side is reassuring. We are almost out of the first trimester!

Here are a few pictures of Baby Ciak! Oh and I did ask if she could tell if it was a boy or girl, and she said she couldn't tell yet. Hey it was worth a shot to check.
I thought that angle looked like a boy but she said that was just the umbilical cord!
High five! There are those tiny fingers!

All and all it was a great day! My next appointment is in 4 weeks for some more testing. More soon!

12 weeks in!

It's Wednesday again and another week is complete! I'm excited about week 12 and that the first trimester is almost over.
I wouldn't say I'm quite showing yet but it definitely feels like it's starting. I'm in that phase where you don't really look pregnant but more like I ate too many burritos haha. Give it a few more weeks and I'm sure it will be a different story.

Each week I'm amazed by the growth. This week the baby is about the size of a lime and all its main body parts are formed and starting to function. So cool! The hands have grown a lot too!

And lastly here is the 12 week update.

How far along? 12 weeks

Some random updates

As some of you probably saw on Facebook, our picture was part of a match commercial on e! Network this past week. I love that match has continued to reach out to us over the past few years. I am so thankful for them for bringing my husband and I together, and I'm always glad to help them out in return. :) Here is a picture from the commercial!
I also love that we are going to have a "match made" baby as they would say! It's still amazing to me how a simple internet profile and joining match.com has lead me to all these wonderful things that are happening in my life now. I still sometimes wonder if I hadn't been living in a time with Internet how I would have met my husband or if I would potentially still be single. Who knows!

Anyway, it's Monday again and this week so quieter than usual which is great. My Dad is in town, and I'm looking forward to seeing him for dinner tonight. It's always nice to have time with my parents and Jeremy.

Also on the agenda this week is to buy some maternity pants. I don't need them quite yet but my pants are starting to get difficult to button! Good thing for yoga pants and leggings. I can totally see these becoming a more prominent part of my wardrobe over the next few months.

I'm also counting the days until my doctors appointment on Friday. I can't wait to see the baby and how much it has grown and have that reassurance that everything is okay. I was just reading an article a friend posted on facebook about worrying and ways to try and manage it. I was always a bit of a worrier but I have found that my infertility journey and my first pregnancy have brought that out a little more. That being said, I'm going to try and worry a little less (if that's really possible) as a mom to be. Easier said than done, I know. But anyway, here is the article. I thought it was an interesting read and had some good points. http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/5092683

Hope you all have a great week!

Quiet weekend

After a busy week, it's nice to have a quiet weekend. The rest of the weekends in October are super busy and full of fun stuff so I'm looking forward to that.

We are going camping next weekend followed by Jeremy's birthday and a wedding. We've got another wedding in San Fran towards the end of October and the weekend after that we find out the gender! Lots of exciting things to look forward to. It's almost hard to believe the holidays are approaching.

I'm starting to get nervous and excited for my next doctors appointment on Friday. It will be three weeks since I went last. I just keep hoping everything is progressing normally. Hopefully my tests results will be a relief as well. I think I've been staying pretty relaxed and trying not to worry but it is hard not too. I haven't had any weird signs or symptoms so I'm taking that as a positive.

I'm really looking forward to starting to need maternity clothes and feeling the baby move. It's all so special and exciting to me. Hopefully in another month or two!

Goodbye week 10, hello week 11!

Wednesdays are like the new Monday for me for the next few months. Each Wednesday brings another week of pregnancy. As the first trimester starts to come to a close, I definitely need to start doing some research and making some decisions. There are so many things to do to prepare! This week I started by cleaning out the closet in the soon to be nursery. I've taken over all three upstairs closets in our bedroom so it was time to donate some stuff and find new homes for other things. The closet is now ready to be filled with baby supplies! I can't wait to start shopping!

After much debate, it looks like the guest room and office will become one. I really wanted to keep the guest bedroom and Jeremy really wanted to keep his desk and office space. It will be crammed but the bed will be joining the office and the guest room will become the baby room. We will make it work! Now the decisions regarding a crib, furniture, and decor. I really have no idea! I guess I should start looking around at what I like. I'm a pretty indecisive person so it might take a while just like I think the names will too.

We received our first few baby gifts this week which was exciting! A hand made burp cloth with GA tech fabric made by one of my mother in laws friends and a cute blanket from one of the families I used to babysit for.
Adorable
Tomorrow I'm participating in a focus group for pregnant women. It's in the city. I'm hoping it will be interesting and maybe I'll make a new friend!

Oh and one more thing! Today marks one month until we find out the baby's gender! Can't wait! What's your guess?
